The Naandi Social Rehabilitation
Centre for PSCIs and Stroke patients
Once a person with a Spinal Cord
Injury or Stroke is discharged from the hospital, there is little or no
facilities in their communities to provide rehabilitation and support.
In Karnataka, there are only
three organisations that cater to the post-hospitalisation needs of PSCIs and
Stroke patients. Samarthya is one of these three. As a result, we have
documented that the residential services at NSRC have been accessed by PSCIs from
16 districts in Karnataka and by people from Telengana.
NSRC is located on NH 50, at a
small junction known as Hosur Cross. This is between Budhgumpa and Kushtagi.
NSRC provides structured rehabilitation that is customised to individual
needs at its facility in Hosur Cross, off NH13, to enable and empower PSCIs with
information, physiotherapy, paramedical support, independent living skills,
aids and appliances, environmental adaptations and linkage with social security
benefits. ]
The facility presently caters to 20persons over a 3-month residential
programme that equips both the PSCI and Stroke patient and their carers to live
independently once they go back home. We now also accept women with SCIs and
Stroke.
NSRC undertakes its residential program me over 4 batches every year.
